On the afternoon of November 7, 2024, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Osaka University successfully held the 26th Academic Exchange Seminar on Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at the Mulan Building of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, focusing on the cutting-edge research in the marine technology field. The seminar was chaired by Professor Tian Xinliang from SJTU. At the beginning of the conference, Professor Fu Shixiao, Dean of the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean, and Civil Engineering at SJTU, warmly welcomed the experts and scholars from Osaka University and emphasized that this exchange aims to foster deeper collaboration and innovation between the two universities in the field of ocean engineering. Professor Gao Zhen, Vice Dean of the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean, and Civil Engineering at SJTU, and Professor Munehiko Minoura from Osaka University presented on the latest advancements in ocean engineering at their respective institutions.
The forum participants discussed and shared their research on the multiple cutting-edge topics in ocean engineering. Associate Professor Feng Aichun presented their research on moonpool resonance, offering the theoretical support on marine platform design; Professor Kazuhiro Iijima introduced a conceptual design of large floating structures for wind farms, emphasizing the safety and cost efficiency; Associate Professor Wen Binrong showcased a vibration control technology for wind turbines based on inerters, which is expected to enhance the stability and efficiency of floating wind power installations. Assistant Professor Takaaki Takeuchi shared a structural integrity assessment method for floating structures, focusing on the long-term safety. Associate Professor Chen Jinbo introduced an innovative torpedo anchor design, further strengthening the stability of floating wind power structures. Professor Munehiko Minoura presented a wave decomposition method based on a state-space model, providing new insights for maintaining platform stability in complex wave environments.
In conclusion, Dean Fu Shixiao emphasized that this seminar not only strengthened the academic connections between the two universities but also paved the way for broader future collaborations. Through active discussions, the participants further solidified their intentions for cooperation in areas such as postdoctoral exchanges and visiting scholar programs. Dean Fu expressed his gratitude to the participants for their enthusiastic engagement and expressed the hope that both institutions would achieve remarkable success in jointly tackling future engineering challenges. The event was concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts, symbolizing the deepening friendship and long-term collaborative vision shared by the two universities.
