Address: Ruth Mulan Chu Chao Building, No. 800 Dongchuan Road, Minhang District, Shanghai, China.
Han Chanjun is currently an Associate Professor and Ph.D. supervisor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She obtained her Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees from Tianjin University and Case Western Reserve University in the United States. She has also worked at Case Western Reserve University and the Indiana Water Resources Survey.
Han has long been engaged in research and teaching on energy underground structures, specifically in the collaborative development and utilization of underground space and geothermal energy. She was selected for the 2023 "Oriental Talent Program" and the 2020 "Sailing Talent Program" in Shanghai. She has led and participated in several national projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the U.S. National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the Hydrologic Survey.
She has published over 30 papers indexed by SCI/EI and has received numerous awards, including the "Urban Star" Silver Award at the Shanghai Urban Governance Youth Talent Innovation Competition (First Prize in the Green Building Track), the NSF Early Career Geotech Faculty Fellowship, the Craig J. Miller Memorial Award from CWRU, and the 2024 Geo-Shanghai Best Paper Award. Han currently serves as a member of the ASCE Geo-Institute EGSC Committee and is on the editorial board of the ASTM Journal of Testing and Evaluation.
Dr. Han has been engaged in research and teaching in the field of new energy underground structures, including energy piles and geothermal heat pumps. In response to the national development strategy for comprehensive green transformation and geothermal energy development, and addressing the core issues of current shallow geothermal energy development technology—such as technological lag, high installation costs, low operational efficiency, and poor long-term performance caused by soil heat imbalance—she has developed multidimensional low-carbon building solutions at the "materials-energy underground structures-systems" level through interdisciplinary approaches. These solutions provide theoretical foundations and technical guidance for the development and optimization of energy underground structures and systems, and play a significant role in promoting energy structure transformation and contributing to the achievement of the "dual carbon" goals.
Students interested in the field of energy underground structures are welcome to join!
