SAIF Professors Serve as Associate Editors of Management Science

Professors Yongxiang Wang and Xiaoyun Yu, both Chair Professors of Finance at the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF), have recently accepted invitations to serve as Associate Editors of the new Sustainability department of Management Science, a leading international academic journal. Professor Wang's appointment is recent, while Professor Yu accepted the role earlier this year.

 

Management Science, launched by the American Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences in 1954, is the oldest and most reputable top journal in the field of economics and management. In response to the growing global focus on sustainability, the journal established a Sustainability department in 2024. The department aims to provide a broad platform for global scholars to promote cutting-edge theoretical and empirical research in the field of sustainability, contributing to the advancement of global sustainable development goals.

 

The appointment of Professors Wang and Yu signifies SAIF's achievements in the research and practice of sustainable development and reflects the high recognition of SAIF scholars by their global peers. These roles will enhance SAIF's collaboration with international academia, foster discipline development, and boost SAIF's influence in global sustainable development research.

SAIF is dedicated to fostering societal sustainable development, with scholars achieving notable research successes. Their work in sustainability has garnered over 1,200 citations in academic papers to date. SAIF releases high-level research reports and policy advice, such as the 2024 Shanghai ESG Development Report and the Shanghai Green Finance Index. The institute has also launched a Sustainable Finance curriculum aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), nurturing talent for national green strategies. In collaboration with global partners, SAIF established the Sustainable Investment Research Center and hosted numerous forums to advance sustainable investment concepts.

 

Profile of Professor Xiaoyun Yu

 

Dr. Yu is a Chair Professor of Finance at Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, a research member of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI), and a fellow of the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research (ABFER). Prior to joining SAIF, she was a professor of finance and Arthur M. Weimer Faculty Fellow at the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University.

Professor Yu's research interests are in the areas of theoretical and empirical corporate finance, with a focus on information economics, initial public offering, financial institutions and systems, and political economy of finance. She has published over 20 articles in leading academic journals, including Journal of Finance, Journal of Business, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Management Science, and Journal of Accounting and Economics. Professor Yu is the author and co-author of several book chapters for Social Security Reform in China, and Volume of Finance, Frontiers of Western Research in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Professor Yu's research has won several awards and has been featured in various media outlets, including the CNBC, New York Times, and Wall Street Journal. She has served as the program chair, track chair, committee member of many top academic conferences. She currently serves as co-editor-in-chief of Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, editor of International Review of Finance, and associate editor of Management Science, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Journal of Empirical Finance.

 

Professor Yu received her Ph.D. in Finance from University of Minnesota.

 

Profile of Professor Yongxiang Wang

 

Dr. Yongxiang Wang is a Chair Professor of Finance at the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He previously held a tenured position as an Associate Professor of Finance at the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California.

Professor Wang's research interests span empirical corporate finance, political economy, organizational economics, behavioral economics, and corporate strategy in emerging markets, with a primary focus on the Chinese economy and financial markets. He has published over 20 high-quality articles in prestigious international journals, including the Journal of Political Economy, American Economic Review, Review of Economic Studies, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Administrative Science Quarterly, Management Science, Strategic Management Journal, and Journal of Accounting and Economics.

Professor Wang serves as an Associate Editor at Review of Economics and Statistics, Review of Finance, Management Science, Journal of Corporate Finance, and China Economic Review.  He is also a frequent referee for top-tier journals in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Management, Sociology, Political Science, and Science. His research projects have received support from NSF grants in the USA, the United Kingdom, Australia, and China. His work has been featured in Science, The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, The Economist, The New York Times, and China Daily. Professor Wang was awarded the SAIF Faculty Academic Research Award in 2023.
